Imagine a village so idyllic it feels plucked from a storybook—sun-drenched fields, infectious laughter, and a community woven together by simple joys. This is the serene world of 'Su from So,' a world director JP Tuminad masterfully establishes, only to gleefully detonate with the arrival of a bumbling, bureaucratic devil. The film is a riotous genre cocktail, blending laugh-out-loud situational comedy with a surprisingly effective undercurrent of folk-horror tension. The plot follows the chaotic domino effect triggered by this supernatural intruder, whose attempts to sow despair are constantly undermined by the villagers' absurdly earnest and often misguided reactions. It’s a clever satire on community panic and the chaos of well-intentioned solutions. Shaneel Gautham is a revelation as the devil, playing the role with a wonderfully deadpan frustration that makes him oddly sympathetic. The ensemble cast, including Sandhya Arakere and Prakash K Thuminadu, delivers pitch-perfect comedic timing, selling every escalating absurdity with conviction. Tuminad’s direction is confident, balancing wide shots of the beautiful rural landscape with tight frames that capture the characters' hilarious desperation. The folk-inspired score and sound design are particularly noteworthy, subtly shifting from cheerful to eerie to accentuate the genre blend. While the film’s runtime allows the premise to breathe, it occasionally leads to repetitive gags in the second act. Some of the horror elements, while atmospheric, feel secondary and could have been woven more tightly into the comedic core. Nonetheless, 'Su from So' is a breath of fresh air, a smart comedy that finds its humor in character and situation rather than cheap jokes.
