Swapped

Nathan Greno, the co-director of 'Tangled,' returns with 'Swapped,' a visually stunning and surprisingly heartfelt animated adventure that turns a classic body-swap premise on its head. The film follows Pip, a hyperactive field mouse (voiced with infectious energy by Michael B. Jordan), and Zephyr, a proud and stoic falcon (brought to life with regal grace by Juno Temple). After a magical mishap involving a glowing acorn, they wake up in each other's bodies. Forced to navigate a world where their instincts are useless, they must work together to reverse the spell before a predatory fox (a scene-stealing Tracy Morgan) catches up to them. The plot is a clever exploration of empathy and perspective, wrapped in a tight 102-minute runtime that never drags. Greno's direction is masterful, balancing laugh-out-loud physical comedy (Pip's tiny legs trying to control Zephyr's massive wings) with genuine emotional stakes. The animation is a feast for the eyes, from the dewy undergrowth of the forest floor to the dizzying heights of the mountain peaks. The voice cast is uniformly excellent: Jordan brings a lovable scrappiness to his tiny character, Temple imbues her falcon with a touching vulnerability, and Cedric the Entertainer and Justina Machado provide warm support as a wise old owl and a no-nonsense squirrel, respectively. The film's message about appreciating your own strengths and understanding others' weaknesses is delivered without ever feeling preachy. 'Swapped' is a delightful, beautifully crafted film that proves even the most familiar tropes can feel fresh with enough heart and imagination.
